'If a person isn't conscious, they're not saying yes': Cynthia Erivo on representation, relationships and her searing legal drama

Guardian interview with Cynthia Erivo ahead of Prima Facie, the one-woman legal drama adapted from Suzie Miller's play, in which she plays barrister Tessa Ensler; the film is scheduled for release in 2027 with National Theatre Live distribution. Erivo discusses the scrutiny of her friendship with Wicked co-star Ariana Grande during the two films' press tours, stepping in when a man rushed Grande at the Singapore premiere in November 2025, and objecting to being characterised as Grande's 'bodyguard'; the headline quote is her line on consent in Prima Facie.
