About

Lakhiyia Hicks is an educator, poet, community organizer, and founder of HOMEplxce Retreats, a Charlotte-based space for rest, community care, and healing-centered gatherings.

Biography

Hicks has worked across education, community health, creative arts, and organizational consulting. The work brings together approaches to restorative gathering, arts-based learning, and collective well-being.

After living in Los Angeles, Hicks moved to Charlotte and developed HOMEplxce Retreats, creating a space for retreats, events, and support for organizers and community members. The project grew out of conversations with people navigating heavy demands on their time and energy.

In a March 2026 interview with QnotesCarolinas, Hicks described a Black queer, gender-expansive identity and explained how experiences of community care inform HOMEplxce and its programs. Hicks has emphasized making room for people to rest, reconnect, and develop relationships across communities.

BQW Impact

Hicks’s work centers Black queer communities and people whose care needs are often overlooked. HOMEplxce connects healing justice to practical gathering spaces, offering approaches to shared rest, creative expression, and community support.
